just a quick post today.
i just found these trousers buried in the bottom of a cupboard. my mum has never liked them and tried to trick me into forgetting about them by hiding them. BUT THEY’RE BACK.
bought from urban outfitters for £5-10, what must be getting on for five years ago now. this means they’re practically vintage, and we all know how important it is to be able to say ‘oh, they’re actually vintage’ when someone asks about your clothes.
the deep purple colour combined with the wide leg style basically makes me look like a genie. which i like, because it makes me feel powerful. i can grant your wishes, but i’m too awesome to do it. trouser empowerment.
they’re light, and it’s summer. they have sparkly silver diagonal lines on them. admit it, they’re perfect. so against my mother’s wishes, i shall be stowing them away with me to france tomorrow.
WONDERFUL.

the first thing you will notice about this outfit; it is perfect for ROUGH and tumble. this was tailored specifically for my recent work at a local festival, and i aimed for a mixture of minimalist fashion working in tandem with an air of practicality, whilst maintaining a comfortable work outfit, as we all know the ROUGH look is currently much to be desired.

the Dunlop wellies work in conjunction with the plain white Yves Saint Laurent t-shirt to frame the strikingly blue denim Wrangler jeans.

the wellies themselves are slightly dirty from the day’s work, however they were in fact dirty before hand! the key to maintaining that worked-in welly look is to clean off any MAJOR dirt, such as clumps of mud, but to always leave any slight marks and mud. they are very comfortable, and were not in fact designed as a fashion item, and have nevertheless integrated seamlessly into my outfit.

the jeans are a simple baggy cut, producing a very casual appearance, and the fading of colour, patches, and stains are the result of genuine wear and tear over several years; the only way to give an authentic worn-out look. however, to ensure people don’t think you’re just being a careless, the skate belt (also with authentic rips and fraying) gives it just that extra touch of fashion sense, whilst STILL maintaining maximum comfort for the day. it also has ample storage space for any accessories, with an abundance of pockets (4 in total), meaning you don’t need to mess up your look with a satchel etc.

the YSL t-shirt is a slight touch of sophistication, being a slightly nicer fit than most white tees, but abides by the essential simplicity of the outfit. once again, genuine mud stains add to the image of the practical working man, but are not too excessive to be 100% repulsive. keeping the shirt tucked in not only shows off the belt, but being secured allows you too move freely without it possibly compromising the ensemble.

the finishing touches of the slightly messy, but not necessarily dirty, hair, and muddied hands are once again easy to achieve. the hair was the result of 2-3 minutes rinsed under hot water (easily achieved in a shower situation), then 7 hours of manual labour in direct sunlight, with no other action required. the 7 hours work will also provide the dirt for the hands, but once again be sure to remove any large pieces of dirt/soil/mud; this is the main pitfall, if you go overboard on the dirt this whole outfit can fail, so practice due caution.

the outfit is supposed to appeal to the fashion-conscious young man, and also the blue collar ‘man on the street’, commanding their respect with your lack of fear to LITERALLY get yours hand dirty.

just trying out a few new poses here, any feedback would be great. the pose i am going for is serious/sinister.

so, this is the outfit i wore today. the top is (i think) my brothers and the jeans are from river island. i feel that sharing clothes with siblings is a good way to create a healthy household relationship.

the top is fairly tight fitting which helps to accentuate my shoulders and chest whilst not pulling too much attention towards my stomach. it’s a shame my great abs arn’t on show but i think i make up with strong shoulders. this sort of top can bought from any high street retailer and is a very versatile item of clothing.

the jeans are probably one of my favourite items of clothing. we all know how hard it is to find jeans that fit properly and these ones are a very good fit. the colour of the jeans may be a bit dull but can go with pretty much any other colour.

the socks are same as yesterday. i also haven’t washed yet so i have kept that scruffy hairstyle for another day (it’s a very convenient look)

all in all i think i have achieved an effortless beauty in this outfit and look forward to hearing any comments.

peace and love

top: h&mketchup stain at which i am pointing: my kitchen & eating habitsskirt: dunno but it doesn’t fit, so i guess it doesn’t mattershoes: my brother’s - moist and warm from a good day’s working the fields
the main look i was trying to achieve here was that of ‘a layabout slobbing around the house’, which i think worked quite well. the ketchup stain wasn’t actually planned, it just all came together and i decided to keep it, as i think it adds an important dimension to the look, really showing that i mean how lazy i am.
the shoes were also last minute, as i needed some to throw on to go outside and none of mine were around. i think they add an air of ‘she’s so damn lazy, she can’t even be bothered to look more than 5m away for a pair of her own shoes’, which i like a lot.
the hair. oh, let me talk about that hair. i couldn’t really decide on the best way to do it, so in the end i just pulled it all back in my classic ‘pineapple’ style just keep it all out of my damn face. i feel that this hairstyle is complimented yesterday’s make-up smeared around my eyes, which isn’t really visible in the photo (sorry, i’ll try harder next time!).
so, thanks a lot for reading. it’s been emotional.

my favourite items of tie-dye.

tie-dye appears to be quite a controversial topic. too 60’s? i don’t know, personally i love hippies. although it divides us, here are the reasons you should all love tie-dye.

it makes it easy to make boring clothes fun. i dyed most of the things in the pictures myself, and it takes about 2 hours to make your entire wardrobe 100% better.

it’s versatile. as i’m showing here, you can tie-dye basically anything. it also does away with the need to co-ordinate things by colour, because you can simply choose to co-ordinate by tie-dye.

it makes everyday feel like summer. although generally limited to summer clothing, never fear because i’m currently in the planning stages of tie-dyeing a winter coat. more to follow.

it breaks the ice. everyone wants to be friends with the guy wearing tie-dye.

it gives you a little leeway to be 10% crazy in public, ‘cause people already sort of expect it. if you’re normal, people are pleasantly surprised you can articulate coherent thoughts and automatically give you more respect that they would your average plain-clothes joe.

you never have to shop for festival clothes, and worry what to take. JUST TAKE ALL YOUR TIE-DYE.

it improves confidence, posture and self-esteem.

it provides an opportunity to reuse old clothes and give them new life, thus saving the planet. al gore loves us for wearing tie-dye.

i’ll stop there, because let’s be honest, the only real reason you need is how awesome i look.

i realise you can’t see a lot in the second picture; the top was meant to be a spiral and came out very white. but it’s FRINGED, which is another awesome thing you can do to make your tie-dyeing even better. the shorts are an example of ‘subtle tie-dye’; there isn’t as much so it isn’t instantly noticeable.. but then, out of nowhere, you’re hit by a tsunami of awesome.

so, now all you need is some light-coloured clothing (not necessarily white), dye (EBAY), buckets and a couple of spare hours to spend improving yourself. i strongly advise you all to GET ON THAT.
